The final day trip of 2026 will be to Shrewsbury Prison followed by free time to explore the town of Shrewsbury.
Shrewsbury Prison, also known as ‘The Dana’ after The Rev.Edmund Dana, was originally constructed in 1793 and was reconstructed later by Thomas Telford. It was a working prison until 2013 but was also a place of execution until corporal punishment was abolished in 1969. Today it is recognized as one of the most complete surviving Victorian prisons in England and is a popular tourist attraction.
Shrewsbury, which is a short walk from the prison, sits inside a loop of the River Severn. Its Tudor centre is lined with half-timbered houses and other unique historical sites of interest.

COST: £33 per person including the cost of the guided tour.
As we have to pay the balance 30 days before we go, the tour cost of £18 will not be refunded unless a person on our reserve list can take your place.

Pick up will be at 08:45 for prompt departure at 09:00 from the pay & display car park, School Drive, B60 1AZ. An all day ticket costs £6.00
We will travel directly to the prison for a guided tour lasting approximately 1hr during which there will be facilities for seating and a possible break. A short walk to Shrewsbury town centre for free time to explore and find refreshments will follow the tour.
**Please be aware that this day will be largely ‘on foot’ therefore you are advised to wear comfortable shoes and clothing suitable for the unpredictable English climate.
